3 Tips to Improve your Affirmations

Affirmations are powerful statements to help you become what you need to be in life and in the world.  They are literally pulling down universal energy and crafting  into matter.  Affirmations are tools of manifestation, actions of positive change, and a powerful statement of self-love, and self-worth.  When you are on a spiritual path, you often work with the idea that your thoughts and beliefs create your reality. We all hold unconscious beliefs that can hinder our evolution and personal growth.  You can transform deep unconscious beliefs with positive, directed intention into beliefs that reflect our truest selves as a being of love and light.  Here are a few ways that you can make your affirmations even more powerful. 

1. Use “I am” Statements. 

Make statements in the most positive, direct, and present moment. You are connecting with. When you work with I am statements, you connecting with your “I am presence,” in essence, you are calling in a higher dimension of your consciousness. When we express an affirmation in the I am presence, we acknowledge that this quality is already a fundamental truth of our highest self. Examples include “I am light. I am love. I am powerful. I am worthy.”

2. Use Positive, Direct Language in the Present Tense. 

Avoid Future Tense statements such as, “I will be” or “I am working on” statements. These kinds of statements are not as direct, and therefore less powerful at manifesting. Instead, adopt a “fake it until you make it” kind of attitude, trying on what may at first feel uncomfortable, you can gradually accept and acknowledge your amazing qualities and embrace your best self.  Also avoid using works like “try, could, should, or wish,” as these words express a belief that you do not already possess that quality. 

 If you are in a place where a strong statement feels difficult, you may gradually build and work with an affirmation that feels true to you. For example, some people struggle with the affirmation “ I am worthy.”You may begin with an affirmation such as “I am improving my self worth,” and eventually build up to a the more direct affirmation “ I am worthy.”

3. Repeat Your Affirmation. 

The more time, passion, and energy you dedicate to an affirmation, the more powerfully it will manifest. It can be very helpful to write down an affirmation and place it where you will notice it in the bathroom mirror or on the refrigerator as a reminder. Like the ancient practice of mantras, malas, or rosaries; there is great power in repetition and holding an affirmation in the mind. The more often you work with an affirmation, the more energy and power going into manifesting your affirmation. Just saying an affirmation one time and forgetting about it is like putting dinner in the oven and then walking away and expecting the dinner to be perfectly presented on the table. You have to put work, attention, and focus into your affirmations.

Affirmations are a powerful tool to help you change your life. A great place to start is to set your intention to craft the perfect affirmation. It can be simple! You can take 5 minutes right now for a brief meditation. Just close you eyes, notice your breath, and ask, “What affirmation do I need to offer myself?”  Use my tips above to craft your I am statement, write it down, and happy manifesting!
