How to Use Crystals, Part 3: During Sleep

Did you know that crystals can initiate healing and personal development even while we sleep? Our bodies are motionless, but our minds are still in flow with the external and internal worlds we engage with. For Part 3 of this series, we will cover how to use your crystals during sleep!

A fun and effective way to use stones, for beginner and advanced students alike, is to work with them during sleep. This practice can be very simple or rather complex, depending on your intent and energetic goals.

Using crystals during sleep is done for many purposes, one of the main being to actually help you sleep. If you experience insomnia or have trouble staying asleep, certain stones are great support for a rejuvenating, positive rest cycle. Crystals are also used for those who have nightmares or repeating stress-driven dreams. Do your research before choosing the right mineral – some stones, like Citrine, can be over-stimulating and thus not good for sleep.

There are many placements for your stones while you sleep. Your personal preference might be to keep them on a nightstand near your bed, where they are in proximity to affect you but not interfere with your sleep. If you’d like the energy to be consistent, you can place crystals underneath or around your bed. With this method, it’s important to have a rug or carpet under the bed in case they fall at night. Many stones can and will break if they hit hardwood floor or tile.

Another great method, especially if you are prone to nightmares, is to put them inside your pillowcase. Be sure that you are using a specimen that’s not too delicate or fragile – tumbled stones and harder minerals like quartz will be sturdiest. Of course, it’s more comfortable to choose a piece with rounded edges and no sharp ends, as no one wants to be jabbed in the face in the middle of the night!

Holding your crystals in the hand during sleep is another wonderful method. I’ve had a “sleeping crystal” for years, which I hold all night and sometimes find elsewhere in the bed come morning. Some people I know, including myself, keep tons of crystals in the bed or around the bedroom.
